Would recommend for families with kids over 3 or 4. oldest loved making his own puppet workshop. Little more than I expected with all 3 activities. ($100 for a family of 5, 1 yo, 2 yo, 4 yo, and 2 adults for admission everything) but worth it. Good time. We will return. This is a special place.
Amazing gem of a museum. Both the wings were so fun to stroll through and learn from. I'm almost 40 and felt like such a kid!
The Center for Puppetry Arts is truly a rare gem.
This place was amazing. The Rudolph puppet show was great. My middle child had trouble sitting through all of it but she is 2. It was the tv version full length. My 4 year old and 1 year old were glued to it. A little bit older or younger and no problem. The exhibits made me feel like a kid again. Seeing the characters from all my favorite shows and Jim Hanson's specials from the 80s. Really cool stuff.
First off I would say that we probably brought a kid that was a little too young. It is a lot to ask children to sit through an hour long show and remain entertained. Puppet show was neat as were the exhibits. They were extremely family friendly and my only knock was the length of the show. Also, since the show is going to be an hour, start that thing on time. It is hard enough to keep a kid entertained during it much less while they are waiting for it.
Never knew about this place until friends invited us to a puppet play. It was great! Also checked out the museums. The Jim Hansen was awesome! Very talented performers and who would have thought that grown-ups would puppetry!!
The Jim Henson section was so beautifully put together, thoughtful, informative and endearing. I never in my life thought I'd get to stand next to a Skesi or Augrah or Miss Piggy or countless other fantastic pieces. I can't wait to go back next year and see what's new.
Oh, and the staff was lovely! Everyone we spoke with were kind and helpful and you could really tell they loved what they did there.
I visited to experience the Labyrinth exhibit before it leaves but found ever so much more! Absolutely fascinating museum, beautifully executed. Even if you weren't curious about puppetry or film you would be filled with wonder by this magical place. Well worth the trip!
