Bottom line, if you haven't ever seen anything like this it might be worth it. I wanted to do the VIP tour which is regarded better in reviews but couldn't make it work for my schedule.
Had a great time on the CNN Studios tour. I know that the workers in news are busy, but I think it would be cool if every once in a while one popped out to give am insider perspective. That could also be a great way to encourage tours. Still think there should be ASL interpreter on screen given the size and scope of CNNs viewership.
Not worth your time and money! Don’t waste your time! You will spend most of your time going through security, making the line for the tourist picture and listening to all the tour rules (no fuzzy babies allowed or pictures taken during the tour) the rest of the tour you will just walk through the building seeing not much that you can’t see from the food court! You will only see the news room from outside a window, and a studio from outside in the hall. That is it! CNN Tour is a lie!
I have previously been on the NBC studio tour in NYC. The NBC tour actually takes you into the SNL studio. The CNN tour doesn't go beyond looking through the glass. I have actually seen more action watching live taping from various news centers that broadcast next to the sidewalk.
It's an interesting 50 minutes. The guide was very clear in speech and informative. Be prepared for a TSA style security check upon entry including belts off, everything out of your pockets and no objects like pocket knives etc. You will have to walk down 5 floors of steps so if you have mobility or staircase issues be warned.
While it was neat to get a glimpse of the action going on behind the scenes at CNN, the standard tour was not much to write home about.
Tour lasted about 50 minuets. Takes you up an impressive escalator followed by a series of staged rooms with video monitors. Only live experience seen was seen through a window of offices. No live anchor shots whatsoever ever. Not worth the time or money. What a waste. Don’t do it. You’ll regret spending 50 minuets and $16,00.
